Palco's 2007 Paddle to the Headwaters event began during the last rainstorm of the wet season and ended on a glorious Sunday afternoon. The top three in Saturday's Mayors Race were Fortuna’s John Campbell, followed closely by Ferndale’s team of Stuart Titus and Jay Parrish. In third place was Eureka City Councilmember Larry Glass.
Sunday boasted the 30-mile marathon and 10-mile sprint races. The river had risen several feet during the night and turned muddy, obscuring most of the hazards that were obvious the day before. One of the most notable problem areas was the Larabee summer bridge, which was covered with just a few inches of water.
