Fortuna Centennial Picnic 2006
Fortuna's been around since 1874 but wasn't incorporated (become a self-governing entity) as a City until February 20, 1906. Fortuna celebrated its 100th birthday with an old-fashioned family picnic in Rohner Park on September 9, 2006. The picnic featured free barbecued hamburgers, hot dogs and watermelon, live music, and old-fashioned family games.
People brought side dishes to share with others. "This really is a family picnic. It's just a really big family," said Centennial Committee member David Reed. The Centennial Committee also honored centenarians and near centenarians at the picnic with a special memento.
